The genocide on EFNet has continued for far too long. Today(Wed, August 6th, 2008) was one of the bloodiest we have seen in as long as one can remember. The un-warranted /kill's and gline's must cease! It is our god given right as trolls to troll. Trolling can be handled with a simple channel ban and thats that! But the opers and admins on EFNet have decided to handle these matters with a much more permanent solution.

ScrollZ is an open source Internet Relay Chat (IRC) client based on ircII.It incorporates many useful features found in all sorts of scripts. The main difference between these scripts and ScrollZ is the size, speed, and low resource requirements %u2013 in contrast to most IRC clients extensively customized using scripts, ScrollZ only takes a couple of extra kilobytes compared to the stock ircII client and runs very quickly on almost any machine.

PieSpy - Inferring and Visualizing Social Network on IRC 11440
PieSpy is an IRC bot that monitors a set of IRC channels. It uses a simple set of heuristics to infer relationships between pairs of users. These inferrences allow PieSpy to build a mathematical model of a social network for any channel. These social networks can be drawn and used to create animations of evolving social networks.

Despite its harsh exterior, IRC is in fact a great tool for collaboration and communication. Its great advantage is that an IRC channel is like a room: you can "hear" whoever's in it. Private communication is possible too, of course, but the fact that the default chatting mode is public is the key thing about a channel. Other advantages include the fact that IRC is an open technology, meaning anyone can run a server and that software for IRC is widely available and often free. The Open Projects IRC network was created specifically to aid the development of open-source efforts.
